A couple of weeks ago, I was at one of the backfields on the Cubs’ spring training complex because a couple of their pitchers were going to throw live at-bats. Both were working back from injuries, and as a part of that process, it’s standard to throw a “sim game,” or live batting practice shortly before returning to the mound in an actual game.
