Help is on the way
The Cubs' pitching gets sorted out
It’s fair to say the Cubs are scuffling just a bit lately. Or, maybe more generously, they’re treading water. They’ve gone 5-5 in their last 10 games and are 10-10 so far in June. Thanks to how well they performed in April and May, that still leaves them 14 games above .500 as we sit in the last week of this month.
But it’s hard to ignore the fact that, as the Cubs have treaded water, the Cardinals and Brewers have crept within 3.5 games of the division lead by doing the opposite. Both teams have gone 7-3 in the same 10-game stretch that the Cubs have played .500 baseball, and the Cubs and Cardinals have six more games (not including Monday night’s Cubs loss in St. Louis) coming up in the next two weeks. That’s plenty for the Cardinals to surpass the Cubs at the current pace both teams are on.
Continuing to tread water isn’t going to cut it for the Cubs.
